The ISO pursues the education and training of local communities in the fields of social change, human development and management development, the organization of communities for livelihood and income generating projects as well as productive employment, and assistance to local communities in the areas of social research, organization and technology development.

The centre is responsive to the needs of the poor in the city and region and works for development.

The centre focuses on human development, particularly of youth in the Dalit community, including legal education and awareness and local development.

The centre runs several activities such as food security, institution building, strategic support to government programmes, capacity building and training.

The centre offers a community based rehabilitation programme, including social and medical rehab, counselling, and awareness.

The centre helps the poor help themselves with attention to training programmes in agriculture, housing, community development, care of poor children, and firestation.
